Being English, I generally back the 'Only Britain is Great' thing, but I am a traitor when it comes to The Office. I've never seen much of the British one, although I do like it but when I did my year abroad in America, my room-mate pretty much forced me to watch the US Office. At first I hated it, I was pretty much only in it for John Krasinski, but then I started to love it.
The best way to look at it is like they're two different shows. Series One of the US Office, the network forced the writers to just remake the UK one, which is why it's rubbish. But by mid s2 they let them do their own thing so it's gone a bit different.
The UK one is closer to the original idea of a 'Mockumentary', it's much more real. The US is getting more sitcommy but I fell in love with Jim/Pam and I love their storyline.
