BBC Wales and BBC Drama has announced that Bafta and Hugo Award winning writer Steven Moffat will succeed Russell T Davies as Lead Writer and Executive Producer of the fifth series of Doctor Who, which will broadcast on BBC One in 2010.
I know it's not news anymore, I seem to be the last one who hears about this.
So.
I like RTD very much. He's the one who brought this show back and he did a pretty good job. I, who live in Hungary, never even heard about Doctor Who before 2005.
I liked SM's episodes. However, I do not worship Blink and Sally Sparrow like some people do. (I don't mean to offend anyone, this is only my opinion.) I liked The Girl in the Fireplace but it did not really fit into S2. It was a bit weird. Okay, I LOVED The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. There was nothing wrong with those.
And.
I can easily imagine that RTD would have been able to make David stay. I don't know about Moffat.

This actually makes a crappy day somewhat better.
And about David staying... idk. I mean, I would be devestated if he left [just as I was when Nine regenerated] but I think if Eleven was good I'd get used to it.
Idk. But I'm uberhappy about The Moff.

I'm happy you're happy. I hope I'll be happy too made me sing Bowie. Damn Ashes To Ashes has taken over my brainI'm sure it'll be great. Just like when Eccleston regenerated and no one was sure about Tennant, and now a lot of people love him just the same, if not more. Change is an esstential part of Who. Let's all embrace it ♥

Me too, actually. :))

I think Donna is also a good example: fandom wasn't overjoyed about her when her return was announced and now most of us love her.

I was always excited for Donna but they really exceeded my expectations as they've just made her even MORE awesome than I thought they would. ♥
I may be biased on this because I adore the Moffat and all his episodes rank up there in my favourites.
[needs Donna icon so uses Martha because she is awesome too and RTD didn't like her very much so YAY FOR MOFFAT and possible Martha Jones return with her being treated well? *crosses fingers*]

I loved his episodes, but running a whole show is just something else. I hope he continues to be a fantastic writer despite managing the whole circus.

True. I'm also quite bias in the fact that I have serious issues with RTD and what he's done to the canon of Who and I carry a HUGE torch for Moffat. I'm sure that he'll be able to handle it all. And who better to take us into The Eleventh Doctor? [if indeed Ten does regenerate at the end of the last special]

As for whether David will stay or not: I like him as the Doctor, despite my feelings about Ten, but I think that he shouldn't stay for series 5, though it's really not my part to say this. It's entirely up to him and I'm not sure he would stay even for RTD if he wanted to pursue other projects.
I have faith in them to find a good Eleven and write a regeneration scene that leaves us in floods of tears. :)

I guess you're right. I just think that MAYBE he wouldn't have looked for other projects. Sure, if he wanted to do something different (something specific) he would leave no matter what.

And David will stay or I kick him in the ass.

I have no idea what I think about this. I really enjoy TEC/TDD and Blink, but hated GitF so I'm a bit conflicted. Plus, I don't know what kind of a grasp he has on character arcs. For all the negative things that can be said about RTD, he does do wonderfully well with characters. GitF and Blink didn't really fit in the season arcs (Blink is more of my opinion than anything) which might be because he couldn't roll with RTD's vision, but still.
I don't know. I guess it'll all work out? *nervous*

I wouldn't have seen DW if not for Rusty either, and I am terribly grateful for him bringing it back just for that. It doesn't stop the fact that I don't like a lot of his episodes, or what he does to his characters. :(
I tend to like Moffat's episodes most of each season. His female characters are awesome in so many ways (Nancy from "The Empty Child" two-parter is probably my favourite minor character in anything), and he can make me like characters that I previously didn't.
Maybe it'll end up that he should just stick to writing an episode or two a season, and will suck as show-runner, but I love what he's done for Who so far, so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. :3

Now, this is just my opinion, but I think that if David was about to leave, it would be because he either really didn't want the role any more, or had something a thousand times better. He's such a fan - he wouldn't leave because he wasn't getting paid enough or anything like that. And if he really wanted to leave, I don't think anyone could make him stay. -shrugs-

In my dreamworld this is perfectly true. :)
The thing is, Moffat writes brilliant plots. I'm not sure about the characters. Okay, I liked Nancy but that's all.
