Ouch

David is to undergo surgery for a prolapsed disc tomorrow and will not be returning to Hamlet before Christmas.
He has issued the following statement:
"It is hugely disappointing for me to have to miss these performances. My back problem has progressed to the point where it is currently impossible for me to carry on without surgery. I want to get back on stage as quickly as possible and I am very grateful to Ed who has courageously got to grips with the role but in a much shorter time. It's a fantastic achievement."

The sad thing is that a particular part of the audience won't show up if David isn't present and the empty seats will be a depressing sight. Or I can has cheap tickets? XDD

I feel bad saying this but... a (pretty sizeable) part of me is kind of happy, because Ed Bennet (who is apparently AMAZING) has got to star in his debut season at the RSC. Is that wrong of me? Another part of me is sad for the people that really wanted to see Tennant but... maybe this way the crazy fans (the ones who were taking things too far) won't be there and it'll be the people who actually enjoy Shakespeare and the play itself left. Am I an awful person?

No, because I completely agree with you!

Also, I doubt very much that the tickets wil be refunded. Most theatres have the policy that tickets won't be refunded unless the show is cancelled.

Oh, me too. Back problems are horrible and they hurt so much :( He'll be alright though... although surgery is nasty... Poor Tennant *sends him good vibes through my jedi mind control skillage*
