Almost genious (How I Met Your Mother icon involved)

I made a very pretty animated icon today but it's too large. Do you know any good technique to make it smaller?
(Beware, How I Met Your Mother spoiler behind the cut!)



UNEXPECTED!BARNEY&ROBIN KISSING IS FUN!!

Anyway, it's 170KB and it should be 40. I tried pretty much everything I could think of (changing 256 colours to 128 and 64 for example) but it's still 124KB. Is it possible to make it right or is it simply too long?

You'd have to take some of the frames out - it's quite long, so it would probably still look good slightly shorter. :)
