IMHO, it's like having one of your good friends suddenly having no idea who you are - it'd definitely be hard to get used to.

I know, but she actually KNOWS why that is. It must be really hard but it's not like he has FORGOT her...

Oh, I know that. It's just a poor example. ^_^;
But still even then, knowing such a thing could happen, doesn't prevent how much that would hurt, at least on an emotional level.
